So, you’re resentful of increases in immigration, because you feel these people come here and take jobs from “Canadians.” You’re afraid some are hell-bent on turning Canada into a reflection of themselves.
You’re sick and tired of cultural diversity and the “woke-ism” that’s popped up everywhere.
You don’t give a shit about people’s pronouns and you’ve never seen a rainbow in your life.
You endure economic anxiety as the middle and working classes reel from job losses and wage stagnation.
You’re disillusioned with political parties, particularly those of the left or centre-left, who you feel cater to everyone but you.
Maybe you feel there’s some sort of world-wide conspiracy, with one of its goals the diminishment of the white race.
You despise what you consider to be the elites of society, the people who talk down to us, and tell us what to do all the time.
You don’t like vaccines. You don’t like masks. Again, you don’t like being told what to do.
You lost your job because you refused to get vaccinated and you’re bitter and angry at the government that put you in this situation.
You feel Donald Trump, Tucker Carlson, and Pierre Pollievre have the correct pulse of the people, and you like how they disrupt the society and elites you’re so angry at.
If those are some of the issues that fire you up, I clearly see you’re angry. I can see you have grievances.
As anyone, I have the option to consider your point of view and decide for myself whether I want to agree with any of that. I feel I already know where I stand, but it doesn’t stop me from hearing you out, albeit respectfully.
On a related matter, and with all due respect, could you guys please leave my goddamned flag alone.
Who gave you the right to wrap yourself in the Canadian flag and declare yourself a patriot, while others who disagree are not?
Why tie it to the back of your pickup truck and drive around town with it flapping around? Honking your horn, carrying on. Does it feel good to be noticed?
Why do you hang the national flag upside down? What point is to be made that can’t be made without the intentional desecration of the Canadian flag? Same for all the folks flying tattered flags from radio antennas and window attachments.
When you’re waving the flag in protest, does it cause you any discomfort to see others flying swastikas and confederate flags at the same time? Would you say anything if it did?
Why the public profanity?
What’s with the F*ck Trudeau signs? Or the guy sitting in his car downtown displaying a sign that says “Fuck Trudeau and fuck you for voting for him.” Is all this really needed? Do we really need F*CK Anybody signs?
In my view, the Canadian flag is a national symbol, worthy of respect. It’s something that engenders pride in Canada, and being Canadian, with all the faults that go along with that.
It’s a symbol of hope for many around the world. When seen by others, it is welcomed, as it represents a nation that has fundamentally compassionate ideals. For many in the world, we’re the good guys.
This flag shouldn’t appear in the same company as angry and profane political signage, swastikas, or Confederate flags. Nor should it fly from vehicles or be displayed ripped, shredded, or weather-battered. It shouldn’t be stepped on, marked or written upon.
Just leave the flag out of it.
