It was absolutely brutal last night, but the opening ceremonies for the Ontario Winter Games went off without a hitch at Ma-Te-Way Activity Centre Thursday night, February 2.
Full credit to everyone involved, including athletes, speakers, hosts, singers, and choirs. Because last night, especially with the wind, was one of the coldest nights I can remember.
I’m almost making it sound like I was there, but I wasn’t. I’m as Canadian as the next fellow but sometimes you just have to stay home by the fire. To those who did make it out, and apparently that number was estimated to be around a thousand, well done for attending something like this in such challenging weather. I’m not sure what percentage of that number were OWG participants and what percentage were walk-up Renfrew types, but it doesn’t matter, the full one-thousand of you are made of better stuff than I am.
Congratulations to all involved.
