It’s only a matter of time before an arrow pointing nowhere starts to make more sense.
Back in August it was reported that the town of Renfrew had reached an agreement with Trivitus Group to develop a piece of property along O’Brien Road across from the No Frills complex and gas station.
The development is planned to host three restaurants, one of which is reported to be a Starbucks. The other two eateries are top secret. Really.
The site is to include plans for two separate drive-thru lanes, one of which will belong to Starbucks. The remaining drive-thru will belong to a restaurant that features a drive-thru as part of its operations, so those who enjoy speculation can start pools on guessing what type of franchise might be in store for the location.
Having a Starbucks on its own will make this stretch of O’Brien busier than what locals may be accustomed to, and this concerned then-mayor Don Eady somewhat, but not enough to rule out the development. Mayor Eady at the time stressed the employment opportunities that will be available to local residents, saying nothing of the boost to the local tax rolls.
O’Brien Road is a major part of a road corridor leading west from Renfrew to Algonquin Park and south towards Highway 401, and these restaurants are positioned to service travellers moving along this route. So it’s going to be busy times along O’Brien Road.
That arrow to nowhere is just part of several arrows to nowhere that will one day soon become entrance/exists to this development. They were part of the pavement marking scheme completed this fall as part of the O’Brien Road construction.
So it looks like anyone who wants to purchase a coffee that defies pronunciation and costs a week’s wages will have the opportunity soon enough.
