ARGYLE AND LOCHIEL TO BE RECONSTRUCTED

Wow!  That was fast!

In mid-February, I took two shots at Town Council for the horrendous condition of Argyle Street, how it’s a vehicular menace, and how something should be done to correct years of neglect.

Renfrew Town Council has responded.  Magnificently.  And very timely, as well.

In a release from January 23, 2023, Renfrew got out ahead of the criticism by announcing the reconstruction of Argyle Street from Bridge Street to Opeongo Road.  And while they’re ripping things apart, they’ve also decided to go all-in by reconstructing Lochiel Street as well, again from Bridge to Opeongo.  Roadway, water mains, sidewalks, the whole thing.

Every skateboarder in town is going to be over the moon when this is done.

Opeongo gets a bit of work too, from Argyle to Bonnechere Street.  And finally, Hall Avenue gets a facelift, from Plant Street to Barr Avenue.  That’s great for Opeongo and Hall, but keep your vehicle safety gear handy (helmets, mouthguard, pads) because the remainder of these two streets will remain absolutely brutal for the time being.

There’s no word on the economic impact such fixes will have on the struts, shocks, brakes, body work and alignment industry, but as I said, there still remains all kinds of beaten-up asphalt and minor sink holes to keep the garages happy.
