HUNGARY PROVING TO BE A SUSPECT ALLY

I checked and you can’t, at least I don’t think you can.  That is kick a nation out of the NATO alliance.  Because I’m seriously considering kicking out Hungary.

Under the current leadership of prime minister Victor Orban, the Eastern European nation once a member of the Warsaw Pact has drawn itself up as a consistent pain in the ass to the alliance as a whole, not to mention the interference it runs on the European Union as well.

Hungary was already in trouble with both NATO and the EU for its regressive lawmaking that has eroded civil rights in that country, particularly the rights of the LGBTQ+ community.  Like many East Europeans, Orban has a strong right-wing slant, which kind of reminds me of Serbia, another country you don’t turn your back on.

Most recently, Hungary has announced that it would not enforce the arrest warrant for Russian president Vladimir Putin even though the country is a member of the ICC.  The chances of Putin ever visiting Hungary are worse than zero, so it’s a moot point of sorts, but still, for Hungary to announce this policy makes obvious their attempts to go against the grain with respect to NATO and the EU.

Hungary has refused to join sanctions against Russia, has refused to help Ukraine with weapons, will not allow weapons or assistance for Ukraine to cross its territory or airspace, and is holding up the EU economic package intended to support Ukraine in its struggle with invader Russia.

Hungary says that it will vote in support of both Sweden and Finland joining NATO (it has to be unanimous) but then refuses to vote on it, constantly coming up with delays.

Way to go, Hungary.  It’s like you’re Serbia.

Eastern Europe is where wars start.  The Balkans are where wars start.  It’s all they seem to know how to do.  And now here’s Hungary, a member of NATO and the EU, being a dick.

Go figure.
