They are people who are willing to put their own personal interests ahead of those of their country. They lie at will, cheat at will, and want to see the end of American democracy as currently constituted. They obstruct the work of government to create chaos in government, using an arcane and needlessly confusing political system in the United States to sow the seeds of disarray.
Two are convicted criminals who have been pardoned by a defeated president, himself the subject of nine criminal indictments and several lawsuits. Several others have been found guilty of criminal charges, some related to the coup attempt on January 6, 2021, others for transgressions in their personal lives. One is a pathetic ex-mayor of America’s largest city, now a sleazy caricature of his former self, a boot-licker eager to be close to power and a man who has destroyed whatever personal legacy and personal fortune he may have attained. One faces an indictment related to the trafficking of teenaged girls across state lines for the purposes of sexual exploitation. Two have personal lives that are an absolute mess leading to divorce, of which one has watched her immediate family disintegrate into a low-level crime family while she gropes a male friend in a public theatre.
One is a bona-fide charlatan, always popping up when there’s controversy in American politics. A professional sleaze-bag of the highest order, a blue-ribbon five-star American asshole, he was in jail and that’s where he should have remained.
One is an out-and-out traitor, a retired military general who strongly advocated the calling in of the army to keep Trump in power, a coup d’état in plain sight. That is, rather, a failed coup d’état.
And one is Donald Trump. Enough said.
All are favourably disposed to Vladimir Putin, and all of them are willing to sacrifice Ukraine in the face of a brutal Russian invasion that is a direct threat to the western democracies, including the United States. If any of them have picked up a history book in their lives, it’s hard to see evidence of it.
These are the faces of American treason. Sadly, there are many others, including many enablers, and together they have stoked divisions in American society that have hobbled the nation, both domestically and internationally. Their goal is to cripple America, then point to that as proof that America is no longer great, which leads to a terrific political brand and slogan.
Most of them are grifters, looking to make money off the backs of regular people who have been whipped into a frenzy through lies and intentional misinformation. Many of them are outright crooks, stealing in plain sight.
None of them are prepared to support the latest bill to address the southern border crisis. To do so would mean that the crisis is on the way to being solved, or at least improved, and that would look like a win for President Biden, and there’s just no way they’re going to let that happen.
They are prepared to hold their nation hostage while they brand themselves as patriots.
Presidents take an oath to defend the United States from enemies, both foreign and domestic. Even Trump took that oath, yet he himself is arguably the biggest domestic threat to the integrity of the United States since the Civil War.
They are sixteen of the most noteworthy domestic enemies of the United States. If they lived in Russia, they’d be in an arctic penal colony or dead, end of story.
History, if America keeps its senses, will not be kind to them.
