TRUMP THREATENS O’DONNELL WITH HER CITIZENSHIP

When Donny’s pissed at you, it may not end well, particularly if you value your citizenship.

Remember when Elon and Donny got into it a few weeks back when Elon started to get all lip about Trump’s BBB — Big Beautiful Bill — that had just passed Congress.  Apparently, after taking a chainsaw to government operations as part of his leadership of DOGE — Department of Government Efficiencies — Musk was bent a bit out of shape by the fact that Trump’s bill actually added trillions of dollars to the national debt, something Elon felt was a bit counter-productive to his own efforts at DOGE.

He said some things.  He called The Donald some names.  He mentioned something about Jeffrey Epstein’s list, the most talked-about and speculated-about list in modern times.

AMERICANS FIGHT BACK

Some of our neighbours to the south are starting to find their heads again.

It’s a little late, maybe even too late, but as the saying goes, better late than never.

I guess.

They’re starting to wake up to the fact that they’ve elected a monster as president for all the wrong reasons.  Many of them wanted a firmer border.  Some wanted to stop the flow of fentanyl, others the flow of immigrants, many the flow of both.  Some others wanted a crackdown on crime.  And then there was the business of chasing the woke and DEI — Diversity/Equality/Inclusion — crowd out of town.

Instead they’re getting the sellout of Ukraine, the sellout of NATO, musings of takeovers of Greenland, Canada, Gaza and Panama, and tariff wars with major allies and trade partners.

But that’s not what’s got them really mad, although any number of those listed things could cause some serious discomfort for the average American.

AMERICA WANTS GAZA TOO

Imagine, two criminals getting together to commit a crime.

America’s Donald Trump and Israel’s Benjamin Netanyahu.

Both needed to win elections in order to stay out of jail.  Both succeeded.  It’s an irony of democracy where the system can allow thugs like these to take charge by taking advantage of a system based upon freedom and government of the people, by the people, and for the people.  Too bad people can make mistakes.  Big ones.

And they never ever learn.  Not ever.  And whoever said that those who refuse to learn the lessons of history are doomed to repeat them?  Well, that guy was on to something, because here we are, again.

Hell, even Hitler was elected back in 1933.  The Germans never saw an election again until 1949, sixteen years and 8.8 million World War 2 deaths later.  To say they might have made a big mistake back in 1933 is a huge understatement.

FIGHTING A U.S. INVASION

A Canadian version of the Mujahideen?

Well, right off the hop, we have to deal with the whole Islamic specificity of that word, as it properly refers to those engaged in jihad, or the defence of Islam.  And Canada, despite the histrionic assertions of unhinged right-wing calamity thinkers, is not an Islamic country.  Yet no word really matches the need more than this one, made famous by generations of so-called “freedom fighters” who managed to chase, in turn, the British, the Russians, and the Americans out of their lands.

We don’t need to become the Mujahideen, but we may need to ape their organization, their structure, recruitment methods, and tactics if we are to win our multi-year war of freedom from our erstwhile friends and neighbours in the UST, or the United States of Trump.

CANADIAN UNITY MAKING A COMEBACK

Canada is a glorious country.  Canadians are a fascinating people.

Over the course of my lifetime, I’v seen much in the way of both national unity and national disunity.  I’ve seen much to be proud of, yet much to despair about.

Sadly, it seemed that the despair had overwhelmed the pride and optimism as I witnessed an ever-hostile population, at least a seemingly oppositional population, gain the upper hand in our national discourse.

Canada is broken.  Canada is this, that, and the other thing, all of it bad.  To hell in a hand basket was the where we were heading and how we were going to get there.

Sentiment advanced by one of our two major political parties, one that polls show would win an overwhelming majority government should a federal election happen today, despite not having a single policy on anything that I can identify and reasonably articulate.  Ironically, I feel the only thing that can save us from this party is their leader, who is easily in my Top 10, maybe even Top 5, of the most unlikeable human beings that walk among us.  If I exclude Americans, he jumps to Top 2 status immediately, duking it out with the deplorable Jordan Peterson and just ahead of the reprehensible Kevin O’Leary.  But I digress.

WHERE DID ALL THE GOOD PEOPLE GO?

Phil McGraw is proof of one indisputable fact.  That is that America has never met a jerk it didn’t ’t want to embrace.

Phil, also known as Dr. Phil, is another one of those Frankenstein’s monsters that Oprah Winfrey is responsible for foisting upon us, taking a small beer grifter and elevating him into a national phenomenon, much as she did with that other huckster Dr. Oz, or Mehmet Oz, purveyor of fine dietary supplements proven to do absolutely no good other than to line his very own pockets.  And for the record, Phil makes Oz look like a choirboy when it comes to the art of sleaze.

At his very core, Phi McGraw is nothing short of creepy, right down to the hand-holding exits from set that he makes with his wife, who seems to be thrilled with her own fame accrued by sliding through life on her scuzz-ball husband’s coattails.

This is America writ large.  We’ve been begging for replacements since Jerry Springer, Morton Downey Jr., and Judge Judy went the way of the Dodo, as in dead or just plain gone.  But as soon as we knock one down, another rises from the muck.  Now they have one as a president, again.

BEWARE THE GENERALS

I promised myself that I wouldn’t write anything about Donald Trump.  After all, what could I possibly add to any commentary about that man and his MAGA movement?

So far I’ve managed to steer clear of anything to do with the guy, and that’s saying something, since he’s talking about absorbing Canada into the United States, which on most days would filter its way into the pile of things that might grab my attention.

It’s January 20th, and I’m watching a home-building show on Global, totally because every single other channel is covering the gong show that Trump has managed to morph the presidential inauguration into.  I understand that, sometimes, it’s okay to stray a bit from the iron rigidity of tradition.  But to turn something like an inauguration into another form of a Trump MAGA rally is tough to watch. Elon Musk, as well, is entirely difficult to watch.

AMERICA’S MANIFEST DESTINY

Is it a revival of the old notion of Manifest Destiny, the idea of the inevitability of American control over the entirety of the North American continent?

Donald Trump has taken to calling Canada America’s fifty-first state, and to calling our prime minister its governor.  As you can imagine, this has had the effect of a large number of us crying out in indignant protest, something I’m absolutely sure he intended and enjoys.

Say nothing else about the guy, he knows how to get a reaction.

NEW YEARS DAY

It’s New Years.

It’s a thing to make predictions as to what might happen in the year to come.  Almost every media platform does it, maybe because it’s a slow news day, maybe because it’s something that consumers legitimately want to consume.  I’m not really crazy about it myself, but I do understand the whole slow news day thing, so I guess I feel somewhat compelled to enter the fray myself, and offer some speculation as to what may happen in the new year, as opposed to making predictions.  So let’s go.
