Conservative MPP Billy Denault would have us believe that the Ontario government has no business getting involved in the labour dispute between Community Living Renfrew County South and OPSEU Local 472.
Well he’s wrong.
As you know, the province foots the bill for Community Living and its operations, and since nothing can be done without them, it’s a little bit rich for he and them to claim non-involvement. That’s without even mentioning the extraordinary amount of wasted money being shovelled at replacement workers, security guards, private investigators, and all their related costs and expenses.
This response from our MPP is simply not acceptable.
So tell him. Tell them. Share with them your frustration and disappointment. And your impatience.
Tell them you don’t accept that they’re not involved.
So write them a letter, email them, or call them on the telephone.
Not everyone has the time for this, nor does anyone really relish the prospect of sitting down and writing a letter or drafting an email to some politician.
So that’s what today is for, providing a template for anyone who wishes to make their views known to their elected representatives.
Below you’ll find templates for letters, emails, and voicemails. I’ve provided them in what I hope is the most workable format, Microsoft Word. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to upload it in Apple Pages, but your Apple device can work with that format as well.
Feel free to use them as they are or change them to suit yourself, it’s all good.
Just make sure to identify yourself and provide contact information. I can almost guarantee that nobody will get back to you, but that little bit of personal information adds credibility to your letter, email, or voicemail.
If you use the templates, great. If you don’t use them, also great. And if you use them and modify them, even greater.
They are provided only as a possible convenience for anyone wishing to reach out to their MPP and declare their unhappiness at a labour disruption entering its ninth week.
Also, letters, emails, and voicemails can be directed at the premier, Doug Ford. If you’re emailing your MPP, you can cc the premier as part of the email. Or you can email his office directly.
Billy Denault has an intake page as part of his website. You could use any of the templates to voice your displeasure there as well. Doug Ford has one as well.
In fact, go for the hat trick and do all three: email, website intake, and voicemail.
It’s time for us as citizens, taxpayers, and community members to demand something better. So it’s time for us to talk to the people holding the money. And calling the shots.
Put pressure on them.
It’s the only thing they understand.
